We frequently are asked, what is this Independent Medical Evaluation or IME that my employer has requested that I attend. First of all, I’m here to tell you that there is nothing independent about an independent medical evaluation. The medical evaluation takes place with a doctor chosen by your employer, scheduled by your employer, medical records and background information provided by the employer, questions needing to be addressed, proposed by the employer, paid for by the employer. There’s nothing independent clearly this is a doctor that is hired by the employer and retained by the employer for a specific purpose.
