There is a strep A outbreak as children are contracting strep A infection which is easily transmissible by sneezing, coughing and contact through hands and sharing of items.
Strep A infection is cause by Group A Streptococcus bacteria responsible for strep A throat, scarlet fever and rash.
Symptoms and signs of strep A infection are :
Sore throat
Fever
Rash
Headaches, muscle aches, flu like symptoms
Scarlet fever can present typically with sandpaper rash, strawberry tongue and fever of over 28
Treatment for strep A infection is with antibiotics, either 10 day course of penicillin or 5 day course of azithromycin
You should see your doctor immediately if your child is not better after 48 hours
