The term "Kitten Season" is common knowledge in the rescue/shelter world, but we get questions all the time from the public about what Kitten Season is and why is it at certain times of the year.
Kitten Season refers to the influx of kittens shelters see at any time of year. Typically there are 2 kitten seasons, Spring and Fall. Spring is the largest. As the weather turns warmer, stray cats and pets that aren't spayed go into heat. The same goes with lots of animals - the majority of new babies are born in the Spring (the birds and the bees!). While smaller, this happens again in the Fall.
The Cattery is a cage-free, no kill shelter for cats! In addition to finding purrfect homes for the cats in our care, we help cat parents through educational videos. We also share cat shenanigans, because everyone loves a good cat shenanigan.

Some years there is a distinct 3rd kitten season in late Summer, sometimes it seems the influx just keeps coming from Spring to late Fall.
Kittens can be born all times during the year. There isn't a week, where we don't have at least one litter available for adoption at our shelter. The gestation period is only 2 months, so a cat can have kittens several times a year. However, when we say Kitten Season, we mean the time period of an overwhelming amount of kittens being born.
