The 2019-20 South-west Indian Ocean saw more significant cyclone activity, beginning with one of the most rapidly intensifying storms recorded in the region, Cyclone Ambali. Belna also formed and struck Madagascar as a Category 3 storm.
Cyclones Calvinia and Herold threatened the island of Mauritius, with the former delivering over 300mm of rain. Elsewhere, one of the more unusual storms was Cyclone Francisco, which lasted for a brief time at first, before redeveloping many days later near Madagascar.
