I've always kind of had a love story with food. I just loved food, but the food didn't always love me back. I was not eating for nutrition. I was eating for entertainment. I was eating for emotional comfort, but it wasn't doing me any good.
About 12 years ago, I was overweight, suffering from Type 2 diabetes, on medications daily, and really concerned for the future. I was a very standard American diet type of eater. I loved all food. I loved every kind of ethnic food. I loved all American food. I loved meat. I loved sugar. My whole life, I just loved food, and I ate recreationally. There's no doubt about it. I was about 62 years old at the time. It was a terrible way to live, and no one ever told me my condition could be reversed.
One day I saw a doctor on TV who said that Type 2 diabetes could be reversed by using a plant-based diet. And then, when I discovered a plant-based diet, my love for food took a different direction. And as my body changed and my health improved dramatically, I fell in love with this new way of eating, which has continued for 12 years.
It changed my health and my physical being completely. The changes came more rapidly than I ever dreamed. Within three to four weeks, I self-terminated the medication that a doctor had prescribed me. My weight started to decline steadily. My blood test usually begins within a month, and it continues to produce excellent results for me, even at 74.
It's given me a chance to see my grandchildren grow up and to spend quality years with my wife. It's allowed me to continue to work and function as a functioning member of society. I'm not a burden on people. I don't believe I'm going to live forever. At least while I'm here, I'm actually living. And that's a big difference. Healing starts at home. Mine did, and so can yours!
