Pain Science Physical Therapy lead physical therapist Dr. Orit Hickman explains patellofemoral pain and its causes and symptoms.
Patella femoral syndrome is a pain in the patellofemoral joint, where the kneecap and femur meet that is a very common problem, especially among women. Sometimes the kneecap may slide to the side a little, causing it to rub against the edge of the femur bone and cause inflammation or irritation. Symptoms may vary, from affecting the whole knee or just a particular joint, to causing pain just when sitting or pain when doing any leg activity, and may or may not lead to noisy joint movement.
A very effective way to alleviate Patellofemoral pain syndrome is through physical therapy.
