This video was created with the intention of displaying how microorganisms are used to treat wastewater in the secondary (biological) treatment process. The entire wastewater treatment process consists of physical, biological and chemical treatment. The first part of the process physically removes solids by means of sedimentation, or separation by gravity. Biological treatment is effective at removing both solid and dissolved organic matter. Chemical treatment is sometimes used for phosphorus removal or further removal of solid organic matter if necessary, depending on how stringent the effluent requirements are for a particular plant.
