Cycling from St. George ferry terminal to South Beach Broadwalk takes you along Staten Island’s Bay Street and through a business district and residential neighborhoods. The ride is moderately challenging because of the gently rolling slopes. So if you’re looking for a flat surface ride, this isn’t the one. For me, the only downside is that for the majority of the Bay Road ride, the bike lanes are shared with vehicles. I don’t like that. However, once you get to Fort Wadsworth, the payoff is worth it. From the Fort entrance to the boardwalk is traffic free and quite scenic with views of the Verrazano Narrows waterfront and Bridge. And of course, the boardwalk and pier are well worth the trip.
