THEJFRD was contacted by Lt. Chelsea Romanowiz of Putnam County Fire Rescue about her friend/coworker, Brooke Bateman, who has been battling caner for the last six months and was completing her final chemotherapy treatment. Lt. Romanowiz asked if THEJFRD would assist in making this day a little more special for her. THEJFRD put out the call to our members for action and to no surprise, over 100 firefighters volunteered to show up. Two weeks ago, THEJFRD hired 28 new recruits...the senior staff and instructors agreed that this would be a great opportunity for these new hires to learn about brother/sisterhood and being part of the fire department family...so they brought the recruits without them knowing what was going on....
That is where we were surprised, and there were lessons for all to learn...
Sit back and see how this heartfelt story unfolded.
