Welcome to the second part of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World video. This is a list of the most famous landmarks created by humans during Antiquity.
The originator of the idea of collecting the wonders of the ancient world in a list can be said to be Herodotus, who, impressed by the Egyptian pyramids and Babylon, considered them to be the most significant achievements of people up to that time. The Seven Wonders that we know today were first written down and praised as the greatest human creations by Antipater of Sidon, chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria. Later there were several other lists as well as proposals to add many other landmarks, such as the Colosseum, the Capitol, and Noah's Ark, but ultimately Antipater's list remains unchanged to this day.
It is a little-known fact that what we today call "miracles" were originally called sights - things that can be seen.
