Check It Out Toby Willis: TLC’s ‘Willis Family’ Star Arrested for Child Rape Reality TV star Toby Willis, 46, was arrested for allegedly raping a child. Toby, whose family is the focus of the TLC reality show The Willis Family, was taken into custody and charged with one count of rape of a child on Sept. 10.
Investigators allegedly nabbed Toby in Kentucky, away from his family’s home in Nashville, after his attempt to escape police, TMZ reports. The married TV star, and father of 12, is being held without bail in Muhlenberg County Jail in Kentucky as a fugitive. He is supposed to be moved to Cheatham County Jail in Nashville, where he will also be held without bail. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations started looking into Toby’s case at the end of August, during which they claim to have discovered that he had a sexual encounter with an underage girl 12 years ago.
The Willis Family followed Toby, his wife Brenda Willis and their family country band, The Willis Clan, who reached the quarterfinals of America’s Got Talent in 2014. The show aired for two seasons on TLC, and the family was informed in May that it would not be back for a third, according to TMZ.
The network allegedly did some thorough background checks on Toby and the rest of his family, but didn’t find anything. A rep for the network said they have not aired an episode of the reality show since back in April and they are, “shocked to hear the news” of the allegations against Toby. As of Sept. 11, the network has removed all links to the show from the official TLC website.
However, Toby is not the first star of a TLC show to be accused of sexual abuse. 19 Kids and Counting‘s Josh Duggar was investigated for molesting five underage girls, including his own sisters. That show was also canceled following the allegations against Josh.
