A 24-hour curfew has been declared in neighbourhoods across Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state in Nigeria. A state of emergency was declared in Borno, and two other states on Tuesday by President Goodluck Jonathan. It was put in place to allow the military to fight the armed group Boko Haram. The group has been behind hundreds of killings and dozens of bombings in the north since 2009. The group say they want a strict form of Islamic law imposed across the country. Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege is the first television news journalist to get into Maiduguri since the state of emergency was declared.
