Vyvanse activates the brain and body’s nervous system and is shown to be effective in treating ADHD and Binge Eating Disorder. All stimulants probably help with this type of eating disorder but Vyvanse has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for this condition.
Dosing is typical from 30-70mg a day. It probably works in a similar fashion to Adderall and other stimulants although it’s not exactly sure how it works. Just like other stimulants, it can lead one to several possible side effects including dependency, or abuse, so that it needs to be taken as prescribed, good to take days off of it so one’s body and mind does not get too dependent on it, and if it’s lost or stolen the police should be notified and a police report should be filed.
Stimulants can cause heart attacks, strokes, aggressive behaviors or psychosis - but more commonly it’s associated with milder symptoms such as increased blood pressure, anxiety, irritability.
This medication sometimes needs an authorization from insurance so it may not be the first one to try initially as it can be expensive or not covered by many insurance carriers. But it is an option that is available for ADHD and Binge Eating problems.
