An iconic song of the 20th Century merges with an iconic artist of the 20th Century.
"UNCHAINED MELODY" is a timeless masterpiece that was composed in 1954 by Alex North (15-time Oscar
nominee, 1986 winner of Lifetime Achievement Oscar), with lyrics by Hy Zaret (noted Tin Pan Alley lyricist), for use in the 1955 prison film, "UNCHAINED."
As one of the most recorded songs of the Twentieth Century, "UNCHAINED MELODY" has become a favorite of many famous artists. Todd Duncan performed the version used in the film. Subsequent artists who recorded "UNCHAINED MELODY" include Les Baxter (#2 on the Billboard Charts), Jimmy Young (#1 on British Charts), Elvis Presley—and of course, the Righteous Brothers, who recorded their now infamous version in 1965. The 1990 blockbuster film "Ghost" introduced "UNCHAINED MELODY" to a whole new generation of fans and made the Righteous Brothers' version a jukebox and radio standard.
Now, Dylanna Music and MPL Publishing are thrilled to share Toots Hibbert's recently recorded version of "UNCHAINED MELODY" with the world.
Toots, the inventor of the word "reggae," was voted one of the 100 greatest singers of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine in 2009. Performed in his timeless reggae style, Toots brings his own unique vision to this version of "UNCHAINED MELODY," which is destined to become a classic.
