Dorsalis pedis artery (DPA) in foot is the continuation of anterior tibial artery in leg, distal to the ankle. Dorsalis pedis pulse is examined as the part of peripheral arterial examination in the extremities. During clinical examination of pulse, dorsalis pedis artery can be palpated by two or three fingers of right hand (index, middle and ring fingers), lateral to the tendon of extensor hallucis longus for big toe. The dorsal most prominence of navicular bone is the bony surface landmark for dorsalis pedis artery. Dorsiflexion of foot during the pulse examination helps evaluation with great success. On the contrast, plantar flexion tightens the extensor retinacula of ankle, obliterating the dorsalis pedis artery.
