Puto Cheese with a twist
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 3/4 cup sugar
3 large eggs
2 cups evaporated milk
2 cups water
3 1/2 tbsp baking powder
2 tbsp canola oil or vegetable oil
cheese for toppings
food color and flavor
Procedure:
1) In a bowl combine dry ingredients: flour, sugar and baking powder
2) mix until well incorporated
3) In a separate bowl combine wet ingredients: eggs, milk, water and oil
4) Mix until well blended
5) Combine dry and wet ingredients. Mix until well combined
6) Strain mixture remove lumps
7) Divide puto batter so you can add food color and flavor
8) Bring 5 cups of water to a boil
9) Put the diced cheese into the puto molder. *lightly grease the molder
10)Emoji puto: Add flavor(langka) and add lemon yellow food color. mix well
11)Fill molds with puto batter until 3/4 full
12)black food color: mix equal parts of green, blue and red.
13)Mix 1/2 tsp black food color into the separate small portion of puto batter(1/2 cup).
*fill the sandwich bag with black puto batter. cut off the corner
14)Draw the emoji using the black puto batter
15)Steam for 5 minutes over low heat and do the toothpick check. *wrap lid with clean cloth to prevent water from dripping into the batter
Notes:
*for medium size puto steam for 10-15 min.
*If you don't want to add food color you can directly fill the molds with puto batter and top with cheese and steam them
*for yummier puto use 4 cups of evaporated milk and no water
