Restoration of a 1974 electromechanical game I completed last winter. The games main object is to keep the car straight on the projected without going into the red on your tach meter. As you shift gears the score reels score faster when you press on the gas. When you press the clutch in the reel stop. This is a very awesome EM game because its challenging and teaches a skill that all kids should learn shifting.
I got this game from some swap shop where the owner acted like it was a simple fix. After looking at it I knew he was full of crap it was total wiring disaster! He did give a fair price and I just really wanted to challenge myself. I have been a field hvac technician since 2001. I can do both residential & commercial troubleshooting also installs etc. I really like the low voltage troubleshooting and it can be challenging once in awhile but for the most part I know what part ill change when I talk to the customer on the phone. So this was a skill builder totally new venture I took on. I spent so many hours on this sleepless nights tracing each line on my schematic I can't even add up the man hours.
One of the biggest problem some idiot tossed out the sound unit . In place of that was some huge industrial transformer with incorrect secondary voltage. I found that amusing for two reasons the first being they ran low voltage common to the ground screw instead of back to the transformer common. The second reason is the old transformer worked just fine and is in use now.
Finding the missing sound unit is like searching for Jimmy Hoffa. I finally got the game working after two months of weekends but still no sound. After much web browsing i found something that could work. I added my own effects using a PM66 re-recordable module (electronics123.com). I really was happy with the results. I know its not original but I would not give up this set up for a original working sound board. I can change the sounds anytime i want and wire it into the game how i please. I have my son playing him and his friends who all have the Xbox 360's PS3 all that jazz love this game especially with the amusing side effects.
Now I'm learning more and have done a couple of pinball games. I may just open a second business along with my hvac company gormanshvac.com if your in Kansas City and need work link to my web be happy to help.
