140 years ago, Emma Lazarus wrote a poem about a new statue that had not yet been installed in the New York harbor. Twenty years later, the poem was added to the Statue of Liberty, forever creating a monument that speaks to the value of diversity. We honor Emma Lazarus and Lady Liberty every time we take the court, but today, we’re reciting her poem to remind ourselves of its message and the promise of America for so many around the world.
