Here I present you the Minus One of "Ce jour de l'an" by Guillaume Dufay (1397-1474), as well as the entire piece with a modern edition I made for the occasion. A facsimile Minus One of this piece already exists on my channel ([ Ссылка ]), but can be hard to begin with. So this is an excellent first step to get to know this wonderful piece and play it with the other voices!

I'll be very much looking forward to welcome you!!
Just like the other video, this video first plays the entire piece "Ce jour de l'an", but this time you can read along with the three voices. Then, for each voice there is a Minus One: the voice of the part you're reading has been left out, so you're directly playing with the other two voices. You can go immediately to the chapter mark of your choice!
One detail: in the original, the tenor is written above the contratenor.
In this modern edition, the contratenor comes first, so there is a different order in the voices to be left out than in the video of the facsimile.
Chapter marks:
00:00:00 - Ce Jour de l'an a 3
00:01:27 - Cantus Minus One
00:02:59 - Contratenor Minus One
00:04:31 - Tenor Minus One
Range of each voice:
Cantus - from a to b' flat
Tenor - from d to f'
Contratenor - from d to f'

The piece can be played along on recorder, viola da gamba, traverso, cornetto, viola da braccio (violin, viola, cello), sackbut, dulcian, and one can also sing; and really anyone interested in this repertoire, join us on your instrument! Be it oboe, flute, clarinet, bassoon, harpsichord, piano, harp, psalterium, marimba... It is always good to learn where our music came from and how notation developed, in a more practical way!
This was the instrumentation I used:
1. g-alto Ganassi recorder
2. Tenor Ganassi recorder
3. Tenor Ganassi recorder
In 16th-century renaissance consorts, the instruments were a fifth apart.
The text of this chanson is:
"Ce jour de l'an voudray joye mener,
Chanter, danser, et mener chiere lie,
Pour maintenir la coutume jolye
Que tous amants sont tenus de garder. (...)"
Translation:
""This (new?) year's day I would like to have joy,
Sing, dance, and live dumb,
To maintain the jolly custom
That all lovers are bound to keep."
