Induction of labor as we do it here is done by administration of oral tablets. These oral tablets contain prostaglandins and prostaglandins are the final mediators of natural labor as well. This is available in the form of tablets which we start administering in the beginning of labor, once the Induction has progressed to a certain stage, one might decide to insert a prostaglandin gel and at times we also use oxytocin infusion to augment labor which is more common. In the process of Induction of labor at times we do a procedure called as artificial rupture of membranes where we let out the amniotic fluid in a sterile manner and that too goes a long way in augmenting labor.
