In this session I make a quick lofi beat on the SP-404A using Resample Method and "Mastering" in the box with Compression, Vinyl Sim and Equalizer.
The guitar loop comes from my "Lo-Fi Jazz Guitar" Sample Pack: [ Ссылка ]
Many many thanks to everyone who's copped the pack, it's so very dope af to hear how y'all be flipping my guitar licks. For those in the know, this loop is "80 A-D-A-D [SP-303 Vinyl Sim]".
0:00 The Samples
0:51 MFX 12 Comp
2:24 MFX 16 Vinyl Sim
3:01 MFX 13 EQ
4:48 The Beat
So, to kick off I copy the guitar twice and mark chops for an intro idea, I'll get to why intros are important in a minute...
Next up I select all the pads with Remain + MFX so that the effects are on for all samples.
- MFX 12 Comp (Effect Limit = ON), I start adjusting levels, first comparing the guitar (soft) to the kick (loud) then the other drums to the guitar (while it's playing).
I do a major deep dive tutorial on using MFX 12 for that Side-Chain Compression type sound here: [ Ссылка ]
Now, when making a beat using Resample Method that has MFX 12 on it, that first kick is going to hit WAAAAY too hard so I like to record a short intro before the beat so the compressor is already working with the sample and when the kick starts it is normal. The end result is a nicer, cleaner loop.
- MFX 16 Vinyl Sim, this kinda smooths n glues. I'm moving Ctrl 1 around 3 o'clock listen to how it effects the kick.
- MFX 13 EQ, often when compressing the crap outta a beat with mfx 12 it squeezes some of the lows out of the kick, so I use EQ to bring them back as well, in this case, I boosted the mids and highs which I felt made the whole thing "brilliant" and pop more. These are REALLY small boosts.
With all that mastering done, I then copy that to another pad then mark out one as the Intro and the other as the Main Loop.
Lemme know what you think and if you have any questions about why I did anything get at me below!
