There are overnight trains which operate across Germany, but these continue across the border into other countries. Only one train operates overnight domestically, and that is Hamburg to Munich. I boarded the train in Berlin and travelled first class, and it wasn't as luxurious as you might expect. The Steigenberger at Berlin station, on the other hand, was wonderful.
