The Leader of Bath and North East Somerset Council - Dine Romero, welcomes our three panelists to discuss the role B&NES played in the slave trade and the abolition of slavery; the historic legacies including architecture/ institutions. It also describes the work being carried out today to identify and tackle modern slavery and human trafficking in our area.
Kirsten Elliott - Akeman Press has always had an interest in industrial archaeology, particularly canals, but her other interests are architecture, dance, literature and the social life of the Georgian period. For over twenty five years she has taken guided tours of Bath, and she also professionally researches the history of buildings.
Dr Shawn Sobers - Associate Professor Cultural Interdisciplinary Practice UWE Bristol - works in film and photography is primarily people-based, rooted in personal narratives, hidden histories and untold stories. As a researcher my work has spanned a wide range of topics, including; community media, creative education, Trans-Atlantic slave trade, disability & walking, and Rastafari culture.
Kate Garbers - Director - Unseen outlines the work of Unseen; the Avon & Somerset Anti-Slavery partnership and will be able to talk with authority on the issues of modern slavery in our area.
