The Congress has won one of its biggest victories in Karnataka. The BJP meanwhile faced one of its biggest routs. What led to the BJP losing its southern bastion? Few BJP insiders have said that the party had diluted its core ideology. The import of leaders from other parties who did not agree with the BJP's core ideology had resulted in the Karyakartas being confused on the ground as each leader had taken different stance on issues. BJP spokesperson Vaman Acharya has written an editorial in the Indian Exporess saying the BJP had nothing to showcase in terms of development. He added that corruption too had become a major sticking point and the party did very little to address the issue. The campaign run by the Congress against CM Bommai stuck resulting in the narrative that the BJP had corrupt leaders.
