Have you wondered about the man whose name inspired the title of the hit HBO series: Lovecraft Country? H.P. Lovecraft was a science fiction author who led a very dark and weird life filled with death and mental illness. The book, Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff, inspired the TV series of the same name. Both follow the adventures of black protagonists as they battle magic and monsters in the area of the U.S. called: Lovecraft Country. I mention that the heroes of the book and the show are black because H.P. Lovecraft was a fairly well-known racist. Matt Ruff knew this, and used his name to show that the feelings of an author don't matter, it is just all about the story. It also helps to breakdown racial barriers, showing that people are just people, and any people can be the heroes of an adventure story, no matter their skin color.
