This is true for plain soda and plain sparkling water but you will also find sweetened or flavoured soda and water which contains added calories, artificial flavour and few other things which you may not want to have. So, adding plain versions of these carbonated liquids to your mocktail, cocktail or whatever does not harm unless you have gastric problems.
Please note- Excess of anything is never recommended and water will always be - any other form of it.
