(9 Jun 2019) THOUSANDS JOIN ANNUAL GAY PRIDE PARADE IN ROME
Thousands of people gathered in the streets of Rome on Saturday to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Gay Pride Parade that took place in the city in 1994.
But a quarter of a century later, the Italian LGBT community is still asking for the recognition of its rights, particularly the right to form same-sex families.
This year's parade was also an occasion to protest against the decision of the Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini to reintroduce the terms "mother and father", rather than "Parent 1 and Parent 2" in official documents for children.
Many Italian celebrities participated in the parade, such as Asia Argento, the Italian actress and leader of the #metoo movement, and the Italian transgender politician Vladimir Luxuria.
