This weekend, I stepped away from wedding photography to capture something different: our local high school wrestling
team.
After getting all their individual portraits we made some time for more dynamic shots for social media and promoting the sport at school.
Here's a glimpse into the shoot: I kept my lighting setup consistent to avoid moving light stands on the wrestling mats.
To achieve various looks, I simply repositioned the wrestlers, turning on and off my lights as needed.
My go-to setup included a MagBox Pro 42" front and to the left of the camera, with two MagBox 36" Strip lights at the sides for that extra edge.
Additionally, a MagMod XL Reflector, sometimes with a Red Dome Gel, was used to add depth and drama, positioned behind the wrestlers.
We got a ton of fun images to use. If you do a shoot like this, don't forget to bring music to play while shooting.
It keeps that great vibe going and makes the entire time fun for the athletes.
We did all the individual portraits in about an hour and used about two hours for the creative fun stuff.
