After fighting with a d** 55 for more than a month with no success, I did a bunch of research on the best motor for my Sky-wolf project. I arrived at the OS GT60 but it had very little positive review, and several ditching threads regarding it's tendancy to start backwards when hand proping.
I have had very good experiences with OS in the past, so I took a chance and ordered the motor. I followed the instructions to the word, when first tuning it, and this video was taken after the tuning tank of fuel was run through it. It is the 4th starting, 2nd tank of fuel. The motor is turning the 23x8 prop @7200rpm and is holding an 1800rpm idle forever........transitions are brisk and zero tendency to stall, this motor just wants to run...............
As I found very little good info about starting this motor, I thought I would post this to show how this motor starts. From cold, after choking the motor started backward, but does not run well due to the timing differential, much like a glow engine. I let it warm up a bit in reverse then stop it and flip it again, then wham.....running perfect, it is no big deal for seasoned glow guy's such as ourselves.
My lament understanding of why this is, is due to different timing dwell 28 degrees vs 41 degrees, which gives the OS better proportional transition, so its less like an on off switch. I have not flown the engine yet, but will update this video posting when I've got some flights on it, but so far I'm very impressed with this motor, much better than the last piece of crap I was trying to get to work!
