If you have a limited keyboard, you can use the following method:

Place the cursor where you want to insert the symbol.
Go to the "Insert" tab in the MS Word menu.
Click on "Symbol" and then "More Symbols."
In the "Subset" dropdown menu, select "Latin-1 Supplement."
Find the "n with a tilde" symbol (it may require scrolling), click on it, and then click "Insert."
