he overcame scheming nobles, hostile neighbors, and coups by her ex-husband to lead the kingdom of Georgia at the height of its Golden Age. This is Tamar of Georgia, the Queen of Kings. Tamar became co-ruler with her father, in 1178 and sole ruler in 1184. She secured her throne with strategic concessions, including marrying Yuri, Prince of Novgorod, but annulled it due to his immoral behavior. In 1191, she married Alan prince, David Soslan, who helped her defeat Yuri’s coup attempts and expanded the empire from the Black and Caspian Seas and into Armenia and Azerbaijan. She persuaded Saladin to return looted possessions from Jerusalem, ensured free passage for Georgians to the Holy Land, and was named a saint in the Georgian Church. In 1204, she provided an army to her exiled Roman nephews Alexios and David Komnenos to conquer Trebizond, creating a key ally for Georgia. Tamar the Great's nearly 30-year reign marked the kingdom of Georgia’s apex, immortalizing her indomitable spirit and leadership in Georgian hearts.
