Are you looking to buy a field audio recorder? This Zoom F1 review might be the video to give you a solution. This field recorder is compact, versatile, and affordable.
------------------- T R AN S C R I P T ---------------------
What's going on, guys? Today I've got the zoom F1 field recorder. It's an oldie, but it's still working and we want to find out. Is it good enough to use in 2024?
Now we have a line in. So you can plug a love in here or anything that takes that that 3.5mm.
And then you also have your monitor out right. So you can listen to whatever is being recorded. Right. All right.
everything is recorded directly into an SD card that you would plug in. Boom. Right there. Right. Micro SD card.
We have the power button, which is also the hold button so that you don't mess anything up during recording.
on the other side you have your volume controls.
Volume, volume. Right now you can also see you have a DC here. So this is for transferring files directly to your computer. and this right here can also allow you to just power the device if you run out of battery power or if you want extended life. Right. You can just power to device direct through micro SD cables.
This thing runs on triple AA batteries right here. Two triple AA batteries. So you might want to get yourself some rechargeable batteries so that you always have a great charge
what's on the top? Let's, let's discover that there's a big thing here at the back. So originally it's a belt clip.
You could get this attachment which you screw on and it allows you to or you clip it on right here there's clips I'm sorry. There's clips right here. this allows it to become a camera mount. Why do you want it to be a camera mount? Well, today we have the zoom shotgun mic. Right. And so this is the SX six by by zoom.
You can control the mic volume directly on the mic. Right. And so that's what this top part is. You take this off. All right. It's just a cat which allows me to add different attachments such as. This shotgun mic. So now I can turn this field recorder which I previously told you has an option to record lives or something.
If you plug in on the bottom now, it's a shotgun mic that I can either hold like this. Hey, how's it going? What what what? Tell me about yourself. Do an interview. Tell me about yourself. Right. Or it could go direct on camera. And now we're shooting shotgun mic, shotgun style. Now, as an on camera mic, and you have high quality audio coming from it.
So let's say you want to substitute this mic or you just want to get a smaller pack down version of this. Right. Easy way to take it off. You've got a click. These two buttons on the sides right there on each side. Click that pull away. Got them. Put your original cap back on. It clicks in. You can hear that click.
And then make sure you don't lose these because that protects the the microchips in there. Right. So make sure you don't lose those plastic caps. And then simple. Now you got a smaller pack down version for your bag and you're good to go.
So what we're going to do here is we're going to take a test. So let's go ahead and power it on. So we're going to hold that side button down. We're going to see it. Welcome us. Hey. Welcome. What what what then it should read how much time I have left on my memory card. Right. So right now is recording an MP3 192.
Okay. and it even tells me that it's recording on the shotgun, right. So let's go. We've got limiter off. We could turn the limiter on or off simply with the click of a button. and then a low cut feature, we could turn that on or off simply with the cut of a button. And actually it gives you options 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz or off.
So you can actually control the low cut up to 160Hz. That's pretty dope.
You can always change the record format. MP3 250 6K3 hundred and 320 K. I could go to 44.1 K, 16 bit, 48 K, 16 bit, 48 K, 24 bit or 96 K, 24 bit.
I think I'm going to do. I think I'm a record 48 K and we're going to go 24 bit 48 K 24 bit. That's a little bit overload. But we're going to get some quality right.
We're going to press record.
And when you start recording. The time comes down when you start recording. So you know you're recording it. You can also see this red light at the bottom which lets you know your recording.
I don't know what record level I'm on, so I could be on. I could be on a three, but I could also be on like a oh, like a zero. You know, I don't know. But then again, if I was not pointing it like this, if I was doing something where I can see.
What I'm saying. Right.
So maybe if I go like this, I'll end up knowing just based off of how much it lets me go.
