Trevor Smitheram is a dedicated advocate for the preservation and promotion of Cornish heritage. When not sharing Cornish Dialect stories for charitable causes, he can be found volunteering at the Hayle Heritage Centre and leading the Hayle Old Cornwall Society. Trevor also gives engaging talks throughout Hayle, sharing its rich history with various audiences.
His exceptional work has been honoured by Gorsedh Kernow, recognizing his efforts in preserving and promoting the town's heritage. Trevor's hands-on approach, coupled with his passionate storytelling, has made a significant impact on across Cornwall.
Furthermore, Trevor was recognized as a 'Lockdown Heritage Champion' by the Cornwall Heritage Trust in 2022, for his dedication during the pandemic. He regularly shared dialect stories and poems on social media, providing a source of cultural enrichment for his audience. This endeavour was, and still is, valued by so many.
About the Cornish Voices Dialect Project [ Ссылка ] :
The Cornish Voices Dialect Project is a collaboration between Cornwall Heritage Trust, The Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, Gorsedh Kernow and Lowender Peran. The project seeks to promote awareness of Cornish dialect both as a modern medium of communication and part of Cornwall’s cultural heritage.
The eventual aim of the project is to set up an archive of Cornish Dialect covering all of these aspects. As a first step we have created a Youtube Channel with a collection of dialect videos. If you have a Cornish Dialect audio or video recording, you would like to contribute to the archive we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies Dialect Officer: Cornishdialect@gmail.com
