When orphan babies arrive to Jaguar Rescue Center, they stay first at Encar’s house (the owner of the center) under her care. When they are very tiny (less than 700 g) Encar keeps them at home, because they need special milk and special care. Each 2-3 hours they need to be fed. When they already weight about 1 kg, they go to nursery. Because they already know how to eat leaves, carrot and vegetables. They start to go out to trees, for few hours a day. They decide if they want to climb or not. When the period in sloth garden is done, they are between 2-3 kg, workers and volunteers move them to natural reserved La Ceiba (49 hectares of primary forest). Jaguar Rescue Center have there some enclosures in the middle of the forest, in the jungle. Sloths are kept there inside enclosures for about 10 days, then the workers of JRC open the door to enclosure. There are ropes that connect that enclosure and big trees outside. Encar always says that the rope is a connection between the old life and the future, because sloths first go to explore the surrondings and one day they don’t come back to enclosure. As Encars says „We let them escape”. She explains they will know what to eat in the wild, because sloths eat whatever their mum brings them, so in this case, what volunteers give them. And there is a gardener responsible for cutting leaves from La Ceiba and bringing them to JRC, to teach sloth which leaves are eatable. Last year 9 sloths were released.
