Nestled in Colaba, a quintessential Mumbai neighbourhood, is SJK Architects’ new workspace, overlooking the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel & Tower and the Gateway of India.
Founder Shimul Jhaveri Kadri's three-decade architectural journey, marked by three office relocations, reflects the evolution of her career and practice. The first one was her children’s room, and the second one for two decades was three sunlit cubicles of an industrial estate and now a heritage building, which was set up as an office space in September 2021.
“There was always this aspiration to move towards the centre of the town,” says Shimul, talking about their workspace. The Colaba office welcomes visitors with 14ft-high open-ended rooms, a long desk, a lounge area, a closed 'square meeting room’ and no set desks.
