Power engineers are often presented with new, smaller package options. Whilst smaller is better in many respects there is often a reluctance to embrace such new devices because of concerns about thermal performance, especially in high load, high current situations. Here we look at Nexperia’s LFPAK 8 x 8 MOSFETs demonstrating their ability of both the high current performance and the thermal characteristics to replace D2PAK / D2PAK-7 /TO-LL in high power motor drive applications.
