In this video I discuss one particular social story for coronavirus for children with autism. We are living in some crazy times, and for many of our students, understanding the basic concept of coronavirus, it's impact on our community and way to protect ourselves is something they may need help with.

As many special educators are working from home, using technology along with social stories is a great way to begin conversations about the coronavirus, but also general health, as well as a bunch of other topics.
Social Stories were devised as a tool to help individuals with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) better understand the nuances of interpersonal communication so that they could “interact in an effective and appropriate manner” Although the prescribed format was meant for high functioning people with basic communication skills, the format was adapted substantially to suit individuals with poor communication skills and low level functioning (e.g. children who are struggling with understanding social situations or when coping with change).
Social stories are being used, though, in targeted ways to prepare individuals for social interaction and behavior to prepare individuals with autism for public events such as the coronavirus outbreak.
