When I move from an analogue studio to a USB based studio I struggled to use multiple digital inputs on my MAC. The solution was to create an aggregated device and aggregate the digital inputs to be presented as a single source.
This is how I created on aggregated input on the MAC to allow me to see the individual inputs in Ableton. But the principle is the same for other DAW's and capture devices.
Note: If you are using the Roland MX1 then these setup concepts are important to getting your MX1 correctly setup.
