This is a local hidden gem Vietnamese restaurant that I only heard about from my friend's mum! They used to be a takeaway shop but started getting so popular they opened their doors for dine in. They specialise in three Vietnamese noodle soups: Bún riêu, Bún mắm and Bánh canh. These are all dishes that you don't see regularly at Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney, so it's a great place to check out if you want to try something else besides your usual Phở or Bún bò Huế!
We tried the Bún riêu, a noodle soup with pork & tomato based broth. The characteristic part of the dish is the "riêu", which refers to the crab mince, pork and steamed egg mix you'll see floating on the side. The Bún riêu here came with slices of pork, fried tofu, fried fish cake and pork blood jelly. There was a bean sprout, mint and banana blossom salad to add in, and interestingly some mắm tôm (shrimp paste sauce) too! Don't be overly generous when you dip into it though, it has a super strong and fermented taste.
Location: Thanh Xuan, Canley Vale
