The Vario roof of an SLK no longer closes correctly.
The cause may be e.g. a defective hydraulic cylinder in the hydraulic system.
The fault in the system can be determined via a guided hydraulic pressure test using Star Diagnosis.
Move the front seats all the way to the front, also fold the backrests to the front.
Disassemble the stowage compartment. Start at the speaker cover.
On the side trim, remove the two screws from the panel.
On the upper trim, first open the clips.
Pull the cover slightly upwards.
If present, disconnect the connector and cable duct of the speaker.
Detach the trim over the roll bar.
Note: The holders for the draft stop can remain in position for this operation step.
Fold the rear wall paneling to the front.
Note: With an adhesive strip, fix the washers in place so that the correct roof dimension is not changed.
Only then, remove the cover from the crossmember.
Detach the hydraulic assembly at the two upper fastening points.
Remove the hydraulic assembly from the cross strut between the roll bars.
In Star Diagnosis, click on "Vario roof" in the "Body" menu.
Select "Hydraulic test steps" and start the hydraulic test.
Observe the safety information!
With a self-test, the system now checks ...
... whether the test prerequisites and the actual values required for the test are OK.
Continue with the hydraulic test.
The system asks about special tool "Valve block" here.

Return to the vehicle with absorbent paper or, preferably, a receptacle.
Oil can escape during the next operation steps.
Pick up the valve block and pressure tester.
On the hydraulic assembly, detach the connection plate in the area of hydraulic line no. 53.
Pull hydraulic line no. 53 out of the assembly and ...
... plug it into the only free slot on the adapter, to which the pressure gauge is also connected.
Also detach the connection plate from the valve block.
Remove the cap and connect the line from the adapter to the valve block.
See the corresponding work instructions for the further connection sequence.
Carry out a test run using Star Diagnosis.
In the guided test, perform the "Pump pressure" step.
To do so, keep F3 depressed for approx. 5 seconds.
This checks whether all connections are leaktight and no hydraulic oil is escaping.
If no oil escapes, pick up the pressure gauge and start the testing sequence.
Position the pressure gauge so that you can read off the subsequent test values correctly.
A guideline for all tests is the minimum pressure of 140 bar.
In the first test run, the entire hydraulic assembly is tested.
Enter the measured value into Star Diagnosis.
With a measured value of 150 bar, the hydraulic assembly is OK.
In the guided hydraulic test, the individual cylinders are now tested step-by-step.
The test starts with no. 12, the "Front roof" locking cylinder".
Followed by no. 42 – "Right tubular frame cylinder".
Followed by no. 53 – "Left tubular frame cylinder" ...
.. and no. 20 and 22 – both "Right roof main cylinders".
Finally, no. 31 and 33 – both "Left roof main cylinders".
Always continue the pump pressure test to the end i.e. always test all cylinders.
The oil level still has to be checked and the parts returned to their places.
