Less than a decade ago only 60% of the population had access to drinking water in rural areas.
Hundreds of thousands of women had to walk several kilometres each day to find water, which was often of poor quality.
Supported by the African Development Bank to the tune of $115 million, Senegal’s ‘Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Program’ continues to have a positive impact on the daily lives of the local populations.
This program is part of the pan-African Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative (RWSSI) that aims to improve the living conditions of rural populations in Africa.
