President Vjosa Osmani, via a letter, informed the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell Fontelles on the extension of the EULEX mandate for another year. #eudebates #Brussels #Dialogue #EuropeanUnion #Kosovo #Serbia In the letter addressed to Mr. Borell, President Osmani has announced that EULEX will have a technical mandate, without executive powers, based only on monitoring, mentoring and advice, pursuant to the exchange of letters during the year 2018 and requests submitted by President Osmani in the letter submitted by her on 14 June. The same mandate can be extended for another year, in case of a positive evaluation of the work of this mission by the President of the Republic of Kosovo.

President Osmani has proposed that upon request and based on the needs identified by the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo - EU institutions provide expertise, advisory services and financial assistance in matters related to the justice reform process. President Osmani also invited EULEX to provide technical and advisory support on issues deriving from the Istanbul Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
Furthermore, in the letter, President Osmani reaffirmed the commitment of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo to guarantee the rule of law, fulfilment of obligations arising from the SAA and further advancement of cooperation between the Republic of Kosovo and the European Union.
Osmani informed about this in a letter exchange with EU High Representative Josep Borrell. She told Borrell that the mandate of EULEX is extended for one year with the possibility of another one-year extension. She also wrote in her letter that the mandate of the mission will be technical, without executive competencies, and based on monitoring, mentoring, and advising.
