Kali, the goddess of destruction is one of the most popular Hindu goddesses in Hindu mythology. Kali is also perceived as the goddess of nature, time, creation and a mother goddess in the guise of kali maa.

The goddess kali maa bears numerous names through which she is revered, such as Dakshina kali, maha kali, kali mata and so much more. The goddess kali's attributes are often a huge sword, and a severed head. Kali is often depicted as the black goddess, with a skin as dark as the darkest night.
And just like many Hindu gods, the goddess kali is a multiple armed figure, often shown with up to ten arms. As kali maa or Kali mata, the goddess kali is highly revered in Hindu Tantric traditions, as she is represent the love and benevolence of a mother goddess who protects her devotees and children against misfortunes.
In Hindu mythology, the goddess kali maa is the logical wife of Shiva, the Hindu god and incarnates the goddess Parvati, Kali embodies the great Hindu deity Shakti who represents divine feminine energy and fertility. Though maa kali is the incarnation of the goddess Parvati, she plays a different role in her relationship with Shiva. While Shiva's destructive nature is appeased by Parvati, Kali is the one provoking that destructive nature to overcome the god.
the goddess Kali maa is mostly seen as the goddess of great destructive force, so many see her as the goddess of death. Although the goddess Kali maa is seen as the destructive figure in western culture, she is also has a benign for and represents the benevolence of a mother goddess.
