Three-year-long legal moves by the Japanese government and right-wing Japanese groups to remove the "comfort woman" statue in the U.S. city of Glendale have ended with defeat.
On Monday,... the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by the Japanese group "Global Alliance for Historical Truth" to have the city remove the statue that depicts a young woman in traditional Korean dress.
In a rare step, the Japanese government had presented an opinion to the Supreme Court,... asking it to rule in favor of the suit.
Historians estimate around 200-thousand women, mostly Koreans, were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military before and during World War II.
