The position function of an object is the function that models the location of the object at time t. Therefore, the function will be given in terms of the variable t. If we wanted to know where the object was located after 5 seconds, we'd just plug t=5 into the position function. Position is closely linked to both velocity and acceleration. In fact, the derivative of position is velocity, and the derivative of velocity is acceleration. Therefore, if we're given the position function of an object, we can find out all kinds of things about its position, velocity, and acceleration.
