Full sound test of the Trohet R stand mount speakers. Song by Martin Roth - An Analog Guy in s Digital World.
The Trohet R's are by far the most advanced speaker I have ever designed, they're also one of the best standmounts I've heard to date. I think what makes them so special is the tonal richness of the two high-end drivers used from Scan Speak, the 15w/8530 woofer and the R2904 tweeter both from the Revelator line. They have a smoothness that lends it itself to an easy listening experience, yet with expectational detail retrieval.
But to get the most out of the drivers they have to be time aligned. There are two ways to do this, most common technique is offsetting the front baffle. But this results in a poor off axis phase issues causing an unnatural sound profile. So, the only option is to delay the tweeter signal such that it's perfectly intime with the woofer. I've done this by applying an analogue time correction filter.
The end result is a speaker with smoothness but with precision. This gives a sound profile that sounds fast, or known as transients, images exceptionally well due to accurate phase tracking. And also sounds warm due to the smoothness of the drivers.
Set up details.
I've been putting this system together over the past two years, and the funny thing is that it wasn't exactly intentional. I initially bought the Hypex plate amps for another project for @atlasandhurd. But when I plugged these into the Trohet R's, I was like, 'WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL!' The detail and smoothness of the sound blew my mind. Honestly, they're the best amps I have ever owned.
