@NASA and DARPA are building a nuclear rocket engine by 2027.
Nuclear rockets aren't new and have patiently waited their turn. The last test of a nuclear rocket on the ground was the NERVA program, 50 years ago.
With this latest program, NASA hopes to help build a better and faster engine to help us reach Mars but the dangers of launching nuclear material onboard unreliable rockets are always a concern.
