Rome's Spanish Steps Transformed in Dramatic Femicide Awareness Protest!
Italian femicide activists from the group "Let's Burn It All Down" smeared red paint over Rome's Spanish Steps in a protest against the high number of femicides in Italy. The activists also distributed posters with the names of recent femicide victims on the Piazza di Spagna. Femicide, the killing of a woman due to her gender, has claimed over 40 lives in Italy this year, often by partners or ex-partners. The protest highlighted the case of Giulia Cecchettin, a student brutally murdered by her former partner, which sparked widespread outrage. An activist declared that the blood represented a hidden massacre accepted by society. The police intervened, taking activists' details, while the city cleansing department easily removed the paint.
