How to play the Rhythm Changes on guitar is a must know for every aspiring jazz guitarist. The Rhythm Changes chord progression is the basis of so many great jazz standards that you need to know it.
Some of the many jazz tunes based on the Rhythm Changes are I Got Rhythm, Oleo, Rhythm-A-Ning, Dexterity, and even the Flintstones Theme :-)
In this Rhythm Changes guitar lesson I'll explain the theory, as well as the guitar chords. The chord progression is based on a I VI II V Turnaround in the A section and the cycle of fifths, using dominant chords (or II Vs) during the B section.
I'll show you each of the Rhythm Changes guitar chords note for note and there si also a slow tempo version at the end of this Rhythm Changes jazz guitar lesson.
Rhythm Changes come i all kinds of keys, but for this guitar tutorial we'll stick to the original key of Bb. As a jazz guitarist you simply have to know the Rhythmn Changes in B flat guitar.
Generally speaking, the tempo for songs based on rhythm changes is quite high. That's why I also play through the whole guitar chords progression at slow tempo towards the end of this lesson. Knowing how to change jazz chords on guitar quickly is essential to master the Rhythm Changes jazz guitar chords.
I've made the Ryhtm Changes guitar tab, including Rhythm Changes guitar chord diagrams. You can download the Rhythm Changes guitar PDF and the Guitar Pro files from the link in this description box.
I've also made Rhythm Changes backing track slow and fast tempo, so you can start practicing right away. The Play Along are for Rhythm Changes in Bb slow and fast.
I'm sure my gutiar lesson will help you master teh Rhythm changes guitar comping. With a little practice at slow tempo you'll soon be able to play through the entire chord progression with ease. The good news is, there are so many repetitions, you'll have this down sooner as you think. But the tempo is always rather fast, so you'll need some time to accomplish the tempo goal. You should be able to play along to the Rhythm Changes in B flat backing track at 180bpm.
I hope you like my Rhythm Changes guitar lesson for comping chords in Bb and give it a fat thumbs up. Please share the love and the knowledge and subscribe my channel for many more guitar tutorials like this one.
