Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has rejected the expression of interest in the deputy governorship position by one Philip Sogoti Chepsat.
In a statement posted on his social media page, Governor Sonko claimed that indeed he had received an earlier application by Sogoti and was in the process of writing a formal regret letter to him.
Sonko says he cannot pick Chepsat to be his deputy since he has reserved the position for a person of female gender to fill of which he is not. The governor however says he will only appoint his deputy once a pending legislation on the nomination of deputy governors is enacted.
Chepsat had posted an advert in a local daily asking for the governor's consideration.
